Following the launch of the Bus Converter V•I Chip in August 2006, Vicor has announced that a full family of further V•I Chips components, required for implementing complete Factorized Power Architectures (FPA), entered production in November. Using the Pre-Regulator Module (PRM) and the Voltage Transformation Module (VTM) 48 Vdc input FPA systems can now be implemented that provide isolated, regulated outputs from 0.8 to 55 Vdc. Vicor customers will be pleased to know that there is now a new, lower cost option for the high performance line of 2nd Generation dc-dc converter modules and VIPAC Arrays – E-Grade versions. With the addition of the E-grade, Vicor can now offer four different environmental grades of the 2nd Gen product family: E-grade products have an operating temperature range down to –10°C; C-grade operate down to –25 °C; T and H-grades at –40 °C; and M-grades at –55 °C. Vicor has added six mid-power Micro DC-DC converters to the 48 Vdc input family: a 50 W model at 3.3 Vout and 75 W models at 12, 15, 24, 28, and 48 Vout. Customers using Vicor products can decide for themselves the date that they wish to transition to RoHS compliant manufacturing processes. Whilst the European Community has established a date of 1st July 2006 for full RoHS compliance, some customers may wish to transition immediately whilst others in market areas such as Defence and Telecoms, which are generally excluded, may wish to delay transition.
