Wide Input DCM Family Meets Needs of Today’s Rail Applications

Today we announced a family of next generation of DC-DC Converter Modules (DCMs) in ChiP packaging technology.   With a very wide input range (43 – 154V) and a choice of seven different output voltages from 3.3V to 48V, these new power components are ideal for rail transportation and infrastructure applications, supporting both 72V and 100V nominal rails with a single device.

Housed in a 3623 (36 x 23mm) ChiP package, with power levels up to 240W, the new DCMs deliver industry-leading power densities of up to 653 W/in3 (39.8 W/cm3). With its high frequency zero-voltage switching (ZVS) topology, DCMs consistently deliver high efficiency of up to 93% across their entire input voltage range.

Modern rail infrastructure requires a wide range of DC-DC converters to power a variety of new services. For example, commuter rail systems require mobile communication capabilities to allow passengers to work or connect with infotainment, while freight rail systems require monitoring and control capabilities to assure the safe and timely delivery of all goods onboard. Both, however, demand reliable and high-performance power systems for the necessary safety and security measures (onboard and at station).
