Vicor’s 48 V Direct to PoL Solution is a Finalist in UBM’s ACE Awards 2016

EE Times EDN ACE AwardsWe are delighted that the judges of the ACE (Annual Creativity in Electronics) Awards 2016 have named the Vicor 48 V Direct to PoL solution as one of the finalists in the power category.

Our 48 V Direct to PoL solution replaces a large number of components with just four. Based on our factorized power architecture of a PRM Buck-Boost regulator and a VTM Current Multiplier, the design can be easily scaled to deliver from 50 A to 400 A at voltages from 0.6 V to 2.0 V, for both processor and DDR memory loads.

In addition to offering much higher power density than conventional multiphase conversion techniques, Vicor’s factorized power architecture offers design engineers not only the capability to step down from 48 V to the voltage required by the CPU, GPU, ASIC or DDR memory, but also only one component, the VTM current multiplier, needs to be located near the point of load, simplifying PCB layout.
