Article: “New Thermal-design Options Drive Power Density”

The market is demanding ever increasing functional densities, which needs to be supported by significantly increased power densities.  The trade-off is the challenging thermal-design task to minimize heat generation throughout the power subsystem design.  In a recent article in PowerElectronics, Gary Gill discusses what approaches are available to system designers to address these issues and looks at how power conversion topologies such as ZVS (zero-voltage switching) and ZCS (zero-current switching) will help improve thermal efficiency and power density.
